Heating demands: Unlike a gasoline car that uses waste heat from the engine, an EV must draw significant power directly from the battery to heat the cabin.
Slower charging: Extremely cold batteries can be less receptive to charging, a safety feature known as "lithium plating" can prevent a cold battery from charging at all until it warms up.
Less efficient regenerative braking: The ability of the battery to capture energy during braking is reduced in the cold.
