是的,钱花在特殊教育上,总比养懒汉强。养个正常孩子家长都累得吐血,难以想象那些有残疾或者智力缺陷儿童的家庭是怎么过的。
刚来美国时,总是奇怪为什么美国残疾人这么多,那时还颇以祖国残疾人少而自豪。后来才明白,不是美国残疾人多,而是美国残疾人不受歧视,有机会出门,可以参加各种活动,国内的残疾人,特别是智力有缺陷的,都被家长锁在家里,外人见不到而已。
小学时班上有个残疾同学,我们几个背他上下学背了两年。上初中离家远了,我们背不了了,父母又不能接送,他只得辍学了,也不知现在怎么样了。那个孩子还挺聪明的,只是腿残疾,在美国,大学也上的了。

这群小孩,正常的学校正常的老师没有办法成功的教会他们交流技巧,包括阅读,交流性的说话之类的。必须要特殊老师才能教。
I just don't think regular schools are the best places for them to develop these skills. Also in these days, they also emphasize on immersion--putting special ed students in regular classes with regular students. They also have teacher aides following these special students from period to period, sometimes on a one-on-one basis.

具体的我不太知道。
无论是小孩full time上专门的学校,还是小孩half time上专门的学校,这个跟我们这个帖子的主题没有关系。因为这两种,都需要花很多钱,都是校区在花钱。
