In a contrast to last year's ill- starred Paris visit, Mayor Willie Brown's trade mission to China next month will be a mix of business meetings and field trips.
The mayor and roughly 30 businesspeople will arrive in China on April 1 and visit Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Taipei before returning to San Francisco April 12.
In Hong Kong, the group will hook up with another Bay Area trade mission that includes Mayor Elihu Harris of Oakland.

The cost of the trip is hefty: a $5,000 per person "participation fee" to cover the city's expenses -- everything from the airfare of Brown and staffers to the various gifts the city will present to dignitaries along the way.
