To the people who say "what about Mark Zuckerberg"?
Mark and Meta try very hard not to take sides in partisan debates. Mark has declared that he does not and will not endorse presidential candidates.
This is very much unlike Elon who uses his platform as a propaganda tool.
This is also unlike me (I do take sides), but I don't run a social network, and I am not involved in Meta's content policy decisions.
Mark's recent letter to Congress is precisely about this issue of non-partisanship.
Meta was pressured by US government entities to stamp down certain content:
By agencies in the Trump admin for content identified as Russian psyop.
By the Biden White House for COVID disinformation that was endangering public safety.
These were clearly questions of national security, foreign influence in elections, and public safety.
They were not and should not be partisan issues.
But, as it turned out, they eventually became politically charged partisan issues.
Because Meta (and Mark) try very hard not to take sides in partisan debates, Mark's letter expresses regrets.
