这份研究显示，有约14%受访者表示，他们“经常考虑要离开美国”；另有约26%受访者表示，他们“偶尔会考虑要离开美国”。
调查提到，目前有超过520万的印度裔美国人住在美国，而让印度裔美国人想要离开美国，最主要的因素是政治。有58%受访者提到，他们对美国政治感到失望，还有54%的人是因不满生活负担过重而想离开，另有41%的人是对其人身安全感到忧心，因此不想留在美国。
调查结果显示，印度裔美国人之所以对美国政治怀有负面情绪，是对美国总统特朗普感到不满，因有71%受访者表示，他们不喜欢特朗普处理经济、移民、国际关系的方式。
即便美国与印度间的关系常让人雾里看花，但对大多数印度裔美国人来说，美国的外交政策并非他们关注的焦点，但美国在国内形成日渐排外的氛围，让包括印度裔美国人在内的移民，总觉得自己显得格格不入。
这些歧视、持续社会动荡，都是印度裔美国人想要离开美国的因素，纵使暴力事件并未明显增加，但他们愈来愈担心日常生活会碰到其他人对自己存有偏见的情况，尤其是在工作场所和网路上，许多人提及，有时会尽量避免参与讨论某些话题，甚至会在公共场合感到不安。
此外，调查显示，经济压力是另一个印度裔美国人感到不满的原因。由于在美国的生活开销不断上升，让许多中产阶级家庭难以长期定居，此情况在大都市、科技大城尤其明显。
有21%受访者对通货膨胀感到忧心，另有17%受访者对就业保障有所疑虑，显示经济压力正改变印度裔美国人对在美国生活的看法。
美国移民的相关问题，长久以来都难改善，包括签证申请积压严重、绿卡审核延误、政策充满不确定性等，都持续造成影响，那些持有临时工作签证的专业人士，即便在美国工作、生活多年，仍对未来充满不确定性，因此对美国现状不满。
