In 2012, then-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed a landmark public health regulation to ban the sale of sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces at restaurants, movie theaters, stadiums, and street vendors. Known as the "soda ban," this initiative aimed to curb rising obesity rates but was ultimately blocked by the courts in 2014.
