Just after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, the Senate voted 31-19 against House Bill 1032, which would have redrawn Indiana's congressional districts.

More Indiana Senate Republicans voted against the bill than for it, splitting the party 21 to 19. The 10 Senate Democrats all voted against it.

Because the bill failed during the 2026 Legislative Session, it cannot come back up until after the regular session is over. That is expected to come some time in March.

For months, the president has been pressuring Indiana lawmakers to redraw the state's congressional districts before the 2026 midterm elections. Republicans currently hold a narrow majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. They hope that by gerrymandering Indiana's districts, they can get two more seats by forcing out the state's two Democrats.
