US President Donald Trump meets his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at the White House before being joined by other European leaders.
Before the summit, Trump urged Ukraine to abandon its hopes of regaining Crimea, which Russia seized in 2014, and its ambition to join NATO. Most of the world casts Russia’s annexation of the peninsula as illegal.
“Russia should not be rewarded for its participation in this war. … And it is Moscow that must hear the word: Stop,” Zelenskyy said in a Facebook post, apparently in response to Trump’s call.
The meetings come after Trump rolled out the red carpet for Russian President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Alaska on Friday.
Russia continues to pummel Ukraine. Deadly attacks have been reported in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. Zelenskyy calls the strikes an attempt to “humiliate diplomatic efforts”.

About 30 minutes after bringing Zelenskyy into the Oval Office, Trump has wrapped up the question-answer portion of his meeting.
A separate meeting with seven European leaders is set to be held following Trump and Zelenskyy’s meeting, and Trump said he would have a phone call with Putin after talking with Zelenskyy.

Trump says his country will be involved in providing security guarantees as part of a peace agreement on ending Russia’s war. 这就是解决方案。
Speaking to reporters at the White House alongside his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump said that while European countries are “the first line of defense because they are there, they are Europe, we’re going to help them out also. We’ll be involved.”

Asked what guarantees Zelenskyy would need from Trump to agree to a deal, Zelenskyy responds: “everything”.
“It includes two parts,” he said, saying he needed help strengthening the Ukrainian army with “weapons and people and training issues, [and] intelligence.”

Trump says that maybe there’s no need for a ceasefire, in response to a question on whether he would indeed impose “severe consequences” on Russia, as he promised last week.
“If you look at the six deals that I settled this year, they were all at war – I didn’t do any cease fires,” he says.
Trump has been avoiding responding directly to many questions.

Trump blames Biden for war, says he thought it would be easy to end
Trump says that the war continues to create enormous hardships for Ukraine and repeats the dubious claim that his predecessor Joe Biden was to blame for Russia’s invasion.
“This isn’t my war, this is Joe Biden’s war. He’s the one who had a lot to do with this happening, and we want to get it ended,” he said. 正解
