Bytedance certainly doesn't want to close an app with so many users.
The US government doesn't want to offend so many young people by closing it, it wants to portray itself as making a compromise, I guess.

我的意思是中国早就把能禁的美企都禁了，就不用讨论replacement or alternative了吧？
But China does not have all the alternatives to do that. It still relies on some US products.

美国早就该禁TikTok, 舆论阵地很重要

美国现在也没禁大量中国进口的商品、譬如Temu 就活的很好
That's not my point.
I have no problem with the US banning Tiktok, but the US does not want to do that since doing that contradicts with freedom of speech, the thing that the US is so proud of. So the US is creating a reason/excuse just to save face.
My point is, China can use the same exact reason on US companies operating in China. However, China is not doing that because it still relies on many US products.
