Hungary has scheduled a long-delayed vote on Sweden’s Nato membership for Monday, signalling that the drawn-out saga of Stockholm’s accession to the military alliance will soon come to an end.
Budapest had become the last holdout among the alliance’s 31 members, alleging that Sweden denigrated Hungary’s democratic standards. Turkey, which also resisted for a long time over Koran burnings in the Scandinavian country, gave its go-ahead last month.
