Most wanted fugitive returns to US after 21 years to face murder charges

A former Charleston police officer who spent more than two decades as a fugitive has been returned to the United States from China to face murder and child sex crime charges in South Carolina, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Dan Hiers Jr., 53, was taken into custody in Shanghai by deputy U.S. marshals and returned to the U.S. this week. Hiers is wanted in Dorchester County on a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and in Goose Creek on a murder charge.
Authorities allege Hiers killed his wife, Ludimila Hiers, 24, by shooting her in the back of the head while she slept at their Goose Creek home on March 15, 2005. He disappeared after a warrant was issued for his arrest and later was placed on the U.S. Marshals Service's 15 Most Wanted list.
